 CAMPBELL

MATTHEW

Matthew Campbell grew up in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. From the time he could walk, his parents let him roam the woods on his own, saying that it allowed him to make his own choices and to think for himself. His parents encouraged everyone in the family to make art, and his mother always said that the one thing she wanted for her children was for them to be creative.

While attending the University of Southern Indiana, Matthew discovered  art furniture design and construction, studying under John McNaughton. He also studied theater, especially improv and costume construction. He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 1999.

After graduation, he moved to Dubois, Wyoming, where he worked countless jobs, ranging  from seasonal work on a dude ranch to waiting tables at the Cowboy  Cafe, anything that would support his studio-work designing and creating art furniture. He also co-founded a tiny house company, designing and constructing high-quality architecture under 1000 square feet. Wyoming’s  natural beauty and the low-stress life-style kept him there full-time for 12 years.  But eventually, his artistic ambitions took him on a whole new journey--to the North Carolina School of the Arts for a MFA in Costume Technology. He completed his degree requirements in 2020, right before COVID shut everything down.

Matthew is now pursuing a career in costume technology in the entertainment industry, especially in aging and dying. He can be seen cruising the country in his custom mobile studio.
